A Place To Sit At Last…

Finally, after having my allotment for almost three years I have a seating area! It’s taken a hell of a lot of deadication and hard work. I set my deadline to have it completed by the end of August and I’ve done it! We celebrated by having a big BBQ over the bank holiday with some of my closest friends, some of which have helped with my epic task.

The biggest obstacle were the dozens of plum tree suckers, growing off huge roots from the nearby damson tree. Then there was the huge pile of glass, gone untouched since I got there and all the bramble that popped up everywhere!

In the last few days I managed to landscape the ground. I levelled it, covered it with a weed suppressant membrane and finished it with a thick layer of wood chip. I also recycled and painted some barrel tubs, turning them into planters. I picked up the table, chairs and parasol for a bargain £40 from a sweet, old man on Gumtree who was downsizing. I even found the original rusty old wheel-less barrow that was on the allotment when I took it on. I’ve propped up at the back near the hedges and will later plant with a mixture of foliage plants and grasses for texture.

I’m so pleased with the end result and it’s such a relief to have a comfortable place to sit and relax at last. I’m going to need it after the last few days! My entire body aches so much!
